depression

Researching and writing my persuasive speech has led me to looking into depression.

Depression. Mental strugges can be hard to understand. Because there aren't any medical tests or 'physical dangers' involved, I feel it is easy to forget about it. Also, they are often silent struggles that we are completely oblivious to. We all have felt deep loneliness and pain. I have felt overwhelming darkness or hopelessness. I still have struggles with loneliness. It can be difficult, because no one will ever be completely able to know what you are going through. Friends can be an encouragement, or an ear, but ultimately it seems to be a battle you have to conquer on your own. Oh, but do you not know the Lord is Lord of all? He knowns your thoughts and your feelings and your struggles and feels your pain. He has conquered death and darkness. Your battle is won, and you are not on your own.

If you want some perspective, or insight, look at this website. There is a page in which people have written their feelings and descriptions of depression.

korea

Speaking of lazy, a couple of weeks ago, I got hooked on watching My Princess on netflix. I finished the t.v. series with in 4 days, I just couldn't stop!

It is a quirky Korean t.v. show about a girl who finds out she is royalty, the challenges and decisions she faces, along with her changing relationship with Diplomat Park.

I also have to admit, I think that Diplomat Park was quite handsome. I loved both of these characters personalities! The t.v. show didn't always follow 'sense' or appear 'realistic', but I loved it.

It is up there with Pushing Daisies and Grimm.

Also, isn't Kim Tae-Hee gorgeous? No wonder she is titled the most beautiful women in Korea.

Okay, silly, but I think I have a girl crush on her, along with Zooey Deschanel. (Okay, I think Keira Knightley is beautiful too. )
Can you believe she is 32? She looks so young.

So, this t.v. show got me thinking about how I like Asian culture, I think. I have gotten to know many foreign exchange students well. I love my German and Georgian friends, but I also have really gotten close to my friends from Thailand and Hong Kong. I think it is amazing that despite distance and a time (3 years), we skyped with Leung over the weekend!

I was talking to a friend who had just received a book written by a man who escaped a camp in North Korea. He started an organization called L.I.N.K. I think I will have to go read it soon!

vanity and fingerwaves

Yes, I am vain. I take a lot of pictures, trying to get the perfect angle, or shot. It makes it more embarrassing when you have camera troubles, and so the whole world (o.k., maybe just a few people), see the dozens of pictures you took of yourself. -.-
Off topic, but I think I want to go a year without buying clothes! Sometimes I stare at my closet not seeing anything, when in actuality I have a ton of clothing, more than most of the world. I just need to be creative and open.

I LOVE FINGERWAVES. It was so upsetting to learn that they are virtually impossible to do on myself. Maybe I'll just purchase a wig to wear!
My life lately has been filled with school. I have such a long to-do list which stresses me out, but I am also incredibly lazy (hence the blogpost). I have been working out a bit more frequently, although it is SO hard to run when it gets so dark early and when it is cold outside. I always find myself longing for a run but never acting upon it.

sprinkles

glancing through my book, "Be The One" by Jonathan Sprinkles....

"He understood that leadership is not about making people afraid to disrespect you. It is about compelling people to never want to disappoint you."

"You are wasting your time if you're worrying about your personality type. Instead, shift your focus toward learning how to become more effective at influencing the people you're leading."

You may see yourself as compassionate, cautious, rational, focused, practical; others may see you as overly-emotional, indecisive, unfeeling, unappreciative, predictable."

"Passion persuades."

"Clarity allows you to eliminate any thoughts that are inconsistent with your goal."

"commitment is doing what you say you will do, long after the mood in which you said it has left you."

Critics:
"All feedback is good (for you).
They are speaking the truth (to them) - either receive or defend.
Consider the source - what their position/authority is and whether it is constructive or not.
Fix it.

"Always focus on being the first, Be the first to speak up, be the first to lead a standing ovation, be the first to say thank you, be the first to apologize, be the first to offer to pay, be the first to clean up, and be the first to raise your hand when it is time to ask questions."

"If the direction you're heading doesn't inspire people to want to jump on board, you're thinking too small, and you're wasting everyone's time."

"When your clear about who you are, you will attract people who want the same things you do."
